Chapter 2
This is the Empire of Greywin. I was the Empress of this tilting empire, and I was on the brink of death two weeks ago over a case of poisoning.
Then I woke up, and the servants called the doctors, called all priests and they weren't even frantic. So many people came before me and spoke all at once. It was very hectic.
One week's work was to clear things up and all matters needed to be sorted out.
I have memories of this body, but nothing has been sorted out, so I spent time in bed thinking.
And after a week, I was able to go outside and walked through the palace garden.
"The Duke of Javikin has asked for an audience."
After I came into the room and sat down, Laren spoke. It was already the fifth time to apply for an audience. I knew who it was.
What's Laren going to do? However, when I glanced at Laren, she was also looking at me, clearly waiting for my decision.
I touched my forehead. I can't give up.
"Tell him to come next time because I'm tired now. And I'd like some warm tea."
After hearing what I said, Laren bowed her head.
Another maid heated the air in the room and threw more firewood in the fireplace. It would be nice to have a boiler.
Warm tea was placed in front of me and soon, the sweet scent permeated the air. When I lifted the teacup, a refreshing taste spread through my mouth. It's not the taste I'd expected. I felt a little drowsy and relaxed after I enjoyed a sip or two.
I thought about whether to see the Duke or not, but I am not ready yet. I wasn't confident of facing Sidica's brother at this moment.
Moreover, Sidica's brother was the source of all the destruction of Sidica's life. A terrible person who monitors and controls every move of his sister.
All I learned from the memory of Sidica was that my brother was a terrible person who controlled the way she speaks, the way she carries herself.
"Your Majesty, the Chancellor is asking to see you."
Sigh, I breathed out a long exasperation this time.
The Chancellor was already applying to see me for the third time.
I gave back the same answer when Laren, who had barely returned, informed me.
I knew the reason why the Chancellor asked for an audience.
Sidica was the Regent, yet she was wandering around after she woke up. She would definitely garner attention around her, and as the Empress, the court officials would still need her approval.
I woke up and waited a day or two, but since I haven't worked for a week, I should have come.
The Chancellor is the Crown Prince's subordinate, who was in opposition to the Empress.
It seemed to be an attempt to grasp the enemy's movements rather than worry that they had run into everything.
I have the memory, but it's not my memory, so the people were complete strangers to me. It was a conflict between me and my bloodless family, who had no acquaintance with me.
What can I do in this situation?
So is the case with the matter of my poisoning. Even the suspects have yet to be identified.
The most suspicious ones were likely the maids who serve tea. Unless you're a fool, you can't be inside this palace carrying poison.
The lady-in-waiting, Laren, has been the nanny since Sidica's childhood. Although she was away for a while, she was a nanny who persistently served Sidica while watching her from the side.
And she was the first face I saw when I opened my eyes.
Laren was genuinely worried about me. Other maids are often replaced and Sidica had little memory of them because she wasn't interested.
As soon as Sidica died, they would be the first to be on the suspects' list and questioned. Bad luck could turn them into a criminal.
There had visibly relieved faces when I came back alive. They were afraid of their master, but at the same time, they felt relieved.
"Bring more tea."
At my words, the maid brought a white teapot and poured tea into my teacup.
The hand trembled and splashed little drops of tea on my hand.
When the maid looked at her blunder, she immediately knelt and begged.
"Your Majesty, I am sorry! There's not enough—”
"—Don't worry, get up."
It was hot tea, but it wasn't that hot. Though it doesn't matter to me whether it was hot or cold.
I thought it would be a job to kneel whenever there was a little water splash on my hands, but it was like that for the maid.
The maid blinked her eyes when I asked her to get up with a calm expression.
"......Pardon?"
"That's enough, get up and bring some snacks."
I felt a little hungry.
When I stared long at the puzzled maid with only blinking eyes and not moving, only then did she hurriedly move.
After looking at the maid's back as she burst out of the room, I picked up the teacup.
I know what's wrong with that maid. Sidica was usually sensitive and rough about everything with an angry personality.
It was very hard for my maid.
The maid brushed her hair and she whipped her because it hurt a little, whipped her for stepping on her skirt a little, and hit the neck in severe cases.
She was a vicious master.
Sidica was an evil woman to everyone. No, perhaps it was due to the circumstances and the people around her, including her brother, who has made it worse.
The husband was 20 years older and she was his third wife.
There were already sons and daughters who had not yet reached adulthood, and Sidica could not have children.

When she was exactly 15 years old, she fell off on horseback riding and got hurt. They said she couldn't have children. After that, her family neglected her, and there was nothing to lean on.
So the soft-tempered Sidica became sharp, tough, and sensitive to whoever bothered her.
It's not easy to go crazy.
As fate would have it, there was an empty seat for the empress.
Then, when her old husband suddenly died, the older brother, who always ignored Sidica, made his stand and gave Sidica the power of regent.
Thus, the empress gnawed at the royal treasury and tilted the country for a year.
After a while, the maid had finally brought a snack. It's a cookie.
I picked one up and chewed it. It wasn't sweeter than I thought, and it was a hard cookie.
So this is what the Empress eats.
When the Crown Prince becomes emperor, I can just spend my time leisurely without getting involved in political affairs.
It was a very nice and good environment to have a leisurely time.
