Noble Empress Chapter 3

Chapter 3

There is no problem with eating and sleeping, and there is enough money.

However, there is no smartphone or TV, and there are no dramas or movies. The joys of life are gone. I even paid Netflix to watch American TV on holidays.….

I breathed a long sigh. All it takes are sighs.

It's been a week, but I'm still not getting used to my clothes. I fell asleep early on the pretext of being tired. The most comfortable time was when I changed into my nightgown and lay down on my bed.

Tomorrow, I'll meet the Chancellor and the Crown Prince, and I'll ask them how to finish the regency in a hurry.

The good thing about changing your clothes was that someone was always waiting for you.

It's embarrassing at first. Do we have to do that?—was what I always say. But then I got used to it. Human beings became comfortable in no time because they were adaptable animals.

As soon as you open your eyes in the morning, the warm tea was ready and a maid would approach with a basin of water. She would then proceed to wash my face, but I'm not happy about it, so I hand over a matte towel before I wash my face with my own hands.

If you sit still, they will come and brush your hair and take care of you.

I was surprised at the beginning when I look at my reflection because I didn't get used to the face in the mirror, but now I'm not surprised anymore.

A woman in her 30s was looking back at me.

If I look closely, it seems I'm in my mid-twenties?

“It won't be necessary to do a thick makeup.”

At my words, the maid holding the ends of my mane halted her actions and proceeded to pick a pale pink lipstick in the drawer.

Now a person shouldn't have to be painted as a picture who only stays inside the bedroom.

In fact, I don't like makeup. I feel like I'm wearing a mask on my face and I don't like erasing it because it's too troublesome. I don't want to do this even if I'm not the one doing the makeup and if there is someone else who erases it.

“What would you like your clothes to be?”

My eyes turned to the dresses that Laren had brought.

The empress's dignity and decency should always be worn as a full set. And so is the dress. The accessories were ready to match the clothes, too.

Perhaps because she was the Empress, there were only very fancy clothes.

Is there anything simple?

I chose a simple reddish-brown dress from among the clothes Laren had brought.

Wearing a set of jewelry of cherry-sauce-colored necklace and earrings, which were sleek red.

Ha, the corset was a very uncomfortable thing. This is not a body.

If this body had not adapted, it must have eaten nothing and done nothing.

All this is a horrible nightmare.

It was time to go to work. Dressed in appropriate yet heavy clothes and going to work as someone else. Upon arriving at the Emperor's office, the guard opened the door.

After the door opened, I saw a bright office.

In the middle of the 4-walled room is a solid and large mahogany desk, followed by a giant oil painting frame depicting the founding myth.

On both sides of the desk are bookshelves, flower pots, and armor. The overall color was a dark gray with a violet hue and felt heavy. The floor was covered with a fluffy red carpet, which held my footsteps.

And the horror— a pile of work on the desk.

I was only away for a week, but I couldn't help but make an incredulous laugh when I looked at the mountains of documents.

As I sat down, Laren instantly brought the tea.

It was the same when I was originally in my body, but why is there always so much work to do? I just want to play quietly and live as if I don't have any problems.

While looking at some documents and sorting them out, Laren informed me of a request for an audience. It was the Chancellor.

It was quite early in the morning, and yet he already knew that I had come to work.

When I accepted the request, the Chancellor came in.

Warm yellow eyes with sunshine on his green hair reminiscent of the dense forest. A face whose age was about in his early 40s, but he had the look of frozen sharp sense.

He was of similar age to Sidica's husband. I knew that face from the memory of Sidica.

—You've become shrewd as you grew old. Very shrewd indeed. Quite cruel too.

“Welcome.”

"Glory to the Moon of the Empire. I haven't seen you in ages, Your Majesty."

The Chancellor was the friend of Sidica's husband. He was also a person who ran into Sidica's husband quite a lot before her husband died...

He also expected that the Crown Prince will become an emperor soon after he reaches adulthood.

So, the evaluation of this person in Sidica's perception wasn't good and the relationship wasn't good either.

"You've applied for an audience three times. Did something happen?"

Nothing else should have happened. If anything really happened, Laren would've told me.

The Chancellor had no change of expression upon his face.

"No, it's not like that. I'm worried about your health, and I'm in the process of searching for the culprit...….”

The Chancellor suddenly getting straight to the point. In other words, he meant to investigate the maid who was involved in the case of my poisoning first.

I raised my hand to block the words of the Chancellor.

Is there a need to catch innocent maids? I know it's a necessary procedure, but I also know the process isn't only about questioning.

"It doesn't matter whether you interrogate or investigate, but I hope the process is not coercive."

"Pardon?", asked the man in front of me who was always called the Iron Chancellor, and handled matters like a knife. However, he looked at me with a face asking what was wrong. The Chancellor looked speechless and was at a loss.

"More than that... I have a question." I asked seriously to the Chancellor, who still could not hide his bewildered expression, no, more like shocked.

"Is there a case where the regent ends quickly?"

The Chancellor said nothing as if he had a breakdown.

Why? Is it so weird that I ask you this? It's... I was indeed rather hasty.

"Your Majesty, I must ask you one thing."

"What is it?"

"Are you still not feeling well?"
