Chapter 4
Quite a bold and rude question came back.
The conversation with the Chancellor ended with little to gain. He had an unusual look on his face, and they ended up having lunch without coming to any conclusions.
I sighed softly at the sight of the plate in front of me.
The sound of my sigh made the surrounding servants to flinch, but I couldn't help it. The portions are small. Are you really eating as much as a bird feed?
There's less soup, less salad, and today it's grilled fish, but it's also small. It's like I didn't eat although I've eaten. But when I ate it, strangely, I felt full. Warm tea was served for dessert.
I have unwittingly finished all the work that I have accumulated since morning. I didn't want to do it exactly, but I somehow managed to get it done.
Before eating, I unconsciously done the habit of praying for the food. Thanks to me, the eyes of the Chancellor were wide open.
This body has been educated when the Empress was still a Duke's daughter. Of course, there were only memories and some of it was vague.
I asked the Chancellor about the parts that were missing in my memories.
However, as I tried hard, I felt skeptical about why I did it. I felt unhappy because I had forgotten the goal of passing all the work to my council and living comfortably.
While drinking warm tea, I beckoned for Laren.
That's right. Let's have some sweets. I used my brain a lot while I was working..... Fruit would be good.
"Bring the fruit."
Laren scrupulously brought fruit in haste. There were colorful fruits on the plate for urgent preparation.
It seems they are some that looked like a pear, strawberry, or melon? However, there was no apple that is most common. I ate the strawberry-like fruit with a small fork and yet the texture seems to be an apple.
As I chew it, it really tastes like an apple. It's subtle. Still, I felt much better because it was sweet.
After that dinner with the Chancellor, I've decided to go back to my room because I think I've finished my quota for the morning. I wanted to take off the corset.
While trying to go to the room under the pretext of fatigue, I suddenly thought of the Duke. It was only a matter of time before the Duke came in such a hurry. It was unavoidable for me to drag this on...
When asked about regency, it will go into the Duke's ear.
What if I'm threatened with my life before I find the culprit?
In fact, the Duke thinks Sidica is useless. Only after the emperor's death did he discover the usefulness of Sidica. So maybe he could be the biggest obstacle to my life if I chose seclusion.
"Your Majesty?"
As I unknowingly stopped walking, Laren asked. I don't think I should go back to the palace right now.….
I just felt like that. A subtle ominous thought struck me that I shouldn't go back now.
I told you that you should trust your gut. I'm afraid there's going to be a hassle, so I'll go later...….
I turned around. I'm going to the Crown Prince's Palace. I was thinking of seeing the Crown Prince, who I needed to deal with in the future, so I turned around.
I'll have to think about it as an excuse. If I'm too sick, wouldn't it be able to stop my regency?
Lost in thought, I apparently went on an unfamiliar path, and I wondered if I was mistaken because most of the shapes of the palaces were similar.
It was not the Crown Prince's Palace where I arrived. Was it an abandoned palace? Where the hell am I?
"Where am I?"
Laren answered my question. "It's the Imperial Princess' palace."
Oh, I forgot that there's also a princess.
The youngest princess of the Greywin Empire. As far as I remember, she is now eight years old. The princess who looks just like the Second Empress.
The shawl blue eyes that reminded me of the sea with sandy golden hair.
Sidica wasn't interested in children except for the Crown Prince. However, Sidica didn't mean that she had affection for the Crown Prince. She only paid little attention to him because he was the next emperor.
When the Emperor was around, she tried to be a mother, but she was a mean stepmother after the emperor died.
Princess' palace as a whole was unmanaged. The guards and servants were also of poor quality, so I was surprised to see it for myself.
So did the gardens, which weren't lush and full of weeds, and so were the dreadful hallways and cheap decorations that I saw as soon as we entered.
In truth, Sidica reduced the knights along with the maids on one excuse after another.
The palace itself was ice-cold on this cold day, as the budget was reduced with a ridiculous excuse.
"Your Majesty!"
A woman who was probably a lady-in-waiting jumped to her feet and there were only two other maids behind her.
There was not enough manpower to manage this palace. From escorts and guards to maids...
I looked around. Where's this palace's owner, the princess?
Sidica didn't like children. No, it's more like hate.
Actually, I don't like kids either. But I think there should be a safe environment and protection for children. Children should be protected.
"What about the princess?"
"Her Imperial Highness is in her room because she's not feeling well after eating." said the lady-in-waiting nervously while guiding me to the Imperial Princess' room.
The Princess's room was cold. The fireplace, which was supposed to be in full operation, had cobwebs. There was a stark and dreary atmosphere pervading inside the room.
I couldn't believe this was a child's room.
The princess on the bed was curled up in a thin blanket as though she were indeed not feeling well.
What surprised me more was when I lifted up the blanket, her pajamas were in summer clothes. Her blonde hair was dull, and her face was red with fever, perhaps because of the cold.
Didn't you even feed her? You're crouching in this cold room, and you're just leaving it as it is?

I was fuming to the top of my head and soon exhaled and recalled that Sidica was the cause of all this.
I swallowed the curse that was at the tip of my tongue and hugged the princess. Laren said she would take her, but the girl was lighter than I thought so I declined.
I hurried out of the palace with the princess in my arms, wrapped in a blanket.
Her lady-in-waiting seemed to be flustered with embarrassment, but the child comes first.
I was planning to go to a warm place and let the doctor check her.
